Iguana - Iguane

The green iguana is an invasive species in USA. Native from South and Central America, it has been introduced in Florida mainly via the release of pet iguanas. Although fascinating to observe, this species is considered unwanted. In 2008, cold night temperatures made iguanas fall from trees. Constrained to a state of torpor, the iguanas lost their grip and felt on the ground. The phenomenon described as "frozen iguana shower" occurred later in 2010 and in January 2018.

This image was taken at Oleta River State Park, located in North Miami Beach where we camped in early March 2015 during our first loop made in Canada and the United States.

L’iguane verte est une espèce envahissante en Floride. Native de l’Amérique du Sud et Centrale, elle a été introduite principalement via la relâche en nature d’iguanes de compagnie. Bien que fascinante a observée, cette espèce est considérée comme nuisible et non désirée. En 2008, les températures froides nocturnes ont fait littéralement tomber les iguanes des arbres. Contraintes à un état de torpeur, les iguanes perdaient leur emprise aux arbres. Le phénomène décrit comme « frozen iguana shower » est survenu par la suite en 2010 et en janvier 2018.

Cette image a été prise au Oleta River State Park, situé à North Miami Beach où nous avons campé au début mars 2015 durant l’exécution de notre première boucle au Canada et aux États-Unis.
